Meet The Conservative Candidates Running For Office In Hayden Idaho — Luke Sommer and Tom Shafer

(Hayden, Idaho) — Residents in Hayden, Idaho have been warning that the rapid growth and development of the small town North of Coeur d’Alene is unsustainable, and leading to traffic, congestion, and crime.

Both Luke Sommer, who is running for Mayor, and Thomas Shafer, who is running for city council, are both opposed to the the rapid overdevelopment, and the other woke ideologies being pushed by the the central planners and social engineers.

Find out more about both of them, by listening to their interviews with Ed Bejarana on Idaho Speaks.

Luke Sommer

Somer said on his website:

“I’m running for mayor of Hayden to bring focus and efficiency to city government, and to help bring policy and practice back into line with the people’s desire for appropriate growth.  Hayden’s fast growth has happened largely because the city council lacks transparency in its decision making. I have been a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians for over 10 years and am alarmed that city council meetings are too often conducted with so little public input and that council meeting minutes and meeting videotapes aren’t posted for residents.

“Hayden city government needs to be transparent and efficient, re-embrace low and slow growth, make growth pay for itself, and avoid entanglements with outside groups that have agendas aligned with hi-density, centralizing tendencies.  I look forward to serving the people of Hayden and seeing the city thrive.”

Somer’s opponent is not only in favor of the current “future land use map” which includes high-density housing, but he’s also opposed to single-family homes.

Thomas Shafer

On his website, Shafer says:

“I am concerned about the direction Hayden is heading.  Having fled from an progressive metropolis years ago, I’m well aware of what awaits Hayden if it stays on its current path of approving one high density project after another.  The problems Hayden faces aren’t simple to solve.  Having been an engineer for nearly 30 years, I’m confident I’ll help the city council solve complex challenges and balance the interests of all members of our community.”
