Idaho Representative Suggests Boise Mayor Could be Violating Idaho Law in Promoting LGBT “Drag Kids” Event — Boise Pride to Host Children in Drag Dancing on Stage
Representative Tammy Nichols of Idaho has pointed to Idaho code Title 18-1513 regarding the upcoming LGBT Boise Pride event involving children, suggesting that sponsors and local politicians could be in violation of the law.
The law, Obscene Materials - Dissemination to Minors, states that “distribution, promotion, or dissemination of obscene material,” including “obscene performances” that could be harmful to the “ethical and moral development of our youth” would be a crime.
“It is hereby declared to be the policy of the legislature to restrain the distribution, promotion, or dissemination of obscene material, or of material harmful to minors, or the performance of obscene performances, or performances harmful to minors. It is found that such materials and performances are a contributing factor to crime, to juvenile crime, and also a basic factor in impairing the ethical and moral development of our youth.”
The law goes on to define OBSCENE as "…The quality of any material or of any performance, or of any description or representation, in whatever form, which, as a whole, has the dominant effect of substantially arousing sexual desires in persons under the age of (18) years.”
The child “drag show” which is set to take place on 9/11 will feature children as young as 11 years of age, dancing on stage in front of adults.
